Does Aveda Shampoo Cause Hair Loss

Leave It Down Under: Aussie 3

HAIR LOSS SUFFERER REVIEWS AVEDA INVATI SYSTEM SHAMPOO, CONDITIONER AND SCALP KIT! Does It WORK?!

Once upon a time, we’d buy the Aussie shampoo because the purple bottle with the kangaroo on it was irresistible. However, if you’re still into this drugstore brand, it is time to say goodbye – yes, even if it gets good reviews.

The ingredients in Aussie hair shampoo are harmful and toxic. With parabens that are linked to breast cancer, and soldium lauryl sulfate that potentially increases your carcinogenic exposure, we highly urge you to take it out of your trolley and leave it behind.

The One Biosilk Shampoo That Does Not Cut It

Biosilk is at at the top when it comes to hair care. Most of their products are A-class goodies, but this shampoo failed us. It gets a 2.3 out of 5 on Makeup Alley, with some scary reports, such as this one:

“I will never buy this product ever again, even if it is the last shampoo on earth. It makes my scalp physically sore. So sore. It causes my hair to fall out, to the point I thought something was seriously wrong with me. Please don’t waste your money or your hair on this crap product.”

The Bumble And Bumble Is Not Worth Your Buck

This is one of those shampoos that does the same thing that a dollar-store shampoo could do. “I was really disappointed with this shampoo, especially considering how much I paid for it! Didn’t do anything special to my hair and it didn’t even smell good,” a Total Beauty reviewer states. “The only thing that it did do was clean my hair, but so can a 99 cent bottle of Suave. Never again!”

Dangerous Chemicals In Shampoo

Hair Loss Shampoo: Aveda Hair Loss Shampoo Invati Scalp

Look out for these ingredients in your shampoo.

Fragrance: This is definitely something to look out for. The term fragrance can act as a backdoor for all kinds of chemicals to sneak into your products. Its often applied as an over-arching term for up to 100 ingredients, many of which are toxic to human health. To name a couple of these toxic offenders, phthalates are linked to reproductive and developmental damage, and synthetic fragrances are known to build up in our bodies and linked to hormone disruption.

Surfactants: This is what makes your shampoo lather up with suds. We usually associate soap suds with cleaner hair, but thats not necessarily the case. Sudsing doesnt really occur much in nature, so its often the result of a chemical reaction or agent. While these chemicals arent toxic to humans, they can cause serious irritation and can be really harmful to aquatic life. Given the quantity of shampoo going down the drain every time we wash our hair, wed prefer to avoid irritation and create a safer environment by choosing better products.

What Are The Ingredients In Aveda Shampoo

How To Achieve Scalp Health and Hinder Hair Loss with Ricardo Dinis | Aveda

Some of the active ingredients in this shampoo for grey hair include

Avocado oil This oil is characterized as monounsaturated oil. It contains bioactive compounds such as tocopherols, polyphenols, and phytosterols. According to the Molecules Journal, avocado oil is effective in lubrication and penetration which is important in skincare.

Green tea seed oil green tea is considered a hair growth promoter by the Journal of Cosmetic Science. This ingredient takes part in the 5-alpha reductase activity which is effective in reducing hair loss. Clinically, an overactive sebaceous gland results in excess sebum production which causes itching, dandruff, and hair loss. Green tea works to lower scalp sebum.

Sancha inchi seed oil Sancha inchi plant is native to the Amazon region. It is also known as Gold Inka, Inca inchi, or Incha peanut. These seeds are rich in omega fatty acids and protein. According to the Journal of Medicinal Plant Research, this omega-rich oil helps to regulate oil production that is needed to trap hair moisture.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate this is a safe, skin-friendly surfactant that is used in both skin and hair products. The Indian Journal of Dermatology categorizes sodium lauryl sulfoacetate as an anionic detergent and an excellent cleanser. It is commonly used in shampoos for oily hair.

How Does Aveda Shampoo Work

Aveda Shampoo for color-treated hair works in various ways to strengthen hair. First, it eliminates excess sebum, product build-up, and pollutants from the hair to prevent further damage. Once the scalp and hair are clean, Aveda Shampoo for thinning hair moves in to create bonds that improve hair strength. Finally, the shampoo nourishes the scalp with essential nutrients that help to regulate sebum production, enhance moisture trapping, and nourish hair follicles.

Does Shampoo Contain Ingredients That Could Damage Your Hair

Shampoos are mainly used to clean your scalp and hair, but they also do other important things, like:

  • Be cosmetically pleasing

  • Remove previous products used in your hair

  • Avoid irritating the skin

  • Address hair or scalp conditions

To accomplish all of this, some shampoos can have up to 30 different ingredients in them, including various chemicals that help with the stability and presentability of the shampoo.

Each of these ingredients is used for a specific purpose. But, over time, some of them may become associated with different problems and health concerns. If more is learned about certain ingredients and their negative health effects, they may be removed from cosmetic products.

Lets start with reviewing common shampoo ingredients and then ones that may possibly be linked to hair loss.

The Bad Triple Threat Of Ogx

Hair can make you or break you, and their shampoos certainly does the latter.

You know what OGX contains? Salt, silicones and sulfates. These three ingredients combined are so harsh on your locks, they’ll totally ruin your hair. If you’re looking for that salt-water hair, head over to the ocean. Realistically, this shampoo will make your hair feel like hay because of those unfavourable ingredients.

What Causes Hair Loss And Thinning Hair

Can Aveda Products Cause Hair Loss

According to the NHS, hair loss is not normally anything to worry about. However sometimes it might be an indicator of a medical condition. So you should see a GP if youre concerned.

Many people will experience some degree of hair loss and thinning at some stage in their lives, explains Dr Sara Kayat, Viviscals medical ambassador. Common causes are post-pregnancy, the menopause, ageing, diet, seasonal shedding, illness, stress and medications.

Dr Kayat gives us the lowdown:

What Else Impacts Hair Loss

It all comes down to having a healthy lifestyle. You want to get enough sleep and eat right, says Dr. Jodi. All of these things can impact your hair cycle and the quality of the hair itself. She explains that factors both inside and outside of the body can affect the amount and severity of hair shedding and loss. Heres what you need to know:

STRESS AND SLEEP

We all know the effect stress can have on the body and our hair is no exception. Dr. Jodi explains that many individuals face an intensified amount of hair loss following episodes of acute or chronic stress. When were under stress, the levels of cortisol in the body increase, which can interrupt the growth of the hair follicle. Our advice: find healthy ways to deal with the stress in your life and make getting a full night of sleep a priority.

NUTRITION

Your hair follicles have high cell turnover and a very vigorous metabolism, so they need nutrients to sustain their growth, says Dr. Jodi. Any excessive caloric or nutritional deficiency can cause structural defects in the hair follicle as well as hair loss. The key is to eat a balanced, healthy diet with protein, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals.

You would think with the price points of MAC products they would actually deliver, sad.

by Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 10:46AM

Thanks for this! And to think, I was going to try Biosilk out!!

by Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 01:27PM

I tried this as my hair is very dark brown . Not only did it not deposit color, but as described by the TB reviewer, it left it feeling like straw. BTW, the conditioner that goes with this is no better. It stains your hands, doesn’t deposit color, and has no conditioning effect at all. Your hair feels like you didn’t even use a conditioner. They have some great products, but not this.

Thanks for this article. I hate all Tresemme products even though they keep coming up with new products that sound great. My hair always feels dry and frizzy. I was going to try TRESemme Vitamin B12 & Gelatin Anti-Breakage Shampoo, but not now!

Glad I read this. Sure, I probably wouldn’t be trying many of the high-end brands but if I saw the Tresemme Anti-Breakage in the drugstore I would probably buy it, glad to know now that it’s not recommended by TB. Thanks. 🙂

Haven’t had a whole lot of luck yet with Tressemme

When You Want To Use Sulfates

My Curly Hair Routine After Hair Loss | Aveda Hair Products Review

Sulfates are inexpensive, which tends to mean that sulfate-free shampoos are more expensive than those that contain sulfates. For some people this is is enough for them to stick with sulfates. If you have fine or oily hair, you probably want the oil-stripping qualities that a sulfate shampoo will offer. If you desire more volume in your hair, sulfates will eliminate the grease that leaves your hair flat.
