Style Your Hair With A Deep Side Part

How to Thin Out Curly Hair – TheSalonGuy

Its no secret that side parts add height and length to your hair. Its also no secret that straight hair can get a little boring. Luckily, you can add a bit of oomph to your hairstyle by playing around with the way you part it. Different side parts will give you different levels of hair drama, so its worth experimenting to see which works best for you.

Option : Give Yourself A Trim

This next option is very safe and good for beginners who are nervous about cutting off too much of their beautiful, thick hair.

Its also easy enough to do on your own, assuming your hair is long enough that you can see it.

Cutting the ends of the hair allows you to re-shape it. The dead bits at the ends usually arent of a uniform length, either, so cutting them will keep the hair healthy and help remove some of the extra volume.

If you choose to have it done in a hair salon, chances are you have asked for a trim before. If you tell them that you are getting a trim so you can thin out thick hair, its likely theyll know what youre talking about and give you what you want.

Briogeo Blossom & Bloom Ginseng + Biotin Volumizing Spray

You cannot manage fine curly hair without a spray talk more about a volumizing spray. This product comes packed with active ingredients, but the star of the show is maltodextrin.

It is a natural sugar of starch that cover and gives the hair volume whenever you spray it. The volume is not accurate, but it is only an illusion since the maltodextrin covers it.

Two other ingredients to watch out for are witch hazel and lemon, which helps clean out your hair by reducing the oil build-ups. It helps keep your hair somewhat clean until the following wash day schedule.

Here is another spray that should own a place in your haircare collection. The formula does not only increase the volume of your curls but will also keep your hair moist.

You will find ingredients like raw silk powder in the formula that can keep your thin hair firm. It also contains manuka honey, which is very effective for preventing frizzy hair.

Are Thin And Fine Hair Same

No, they are not. Thin hair has to do with the density of your hair from the scalp. If you have fewer hairs on your scalp because of genetics then you most likely have thin hair. Fine hair has to do with the texture of your hair. If your hair is super soft and each strand is thinner and susceptible to breakage you have fine hair.

Layers Are A Curl’s Best Friend

Medium Natural Layered Hairstyle

A lot of people with curly hair have barely any layers at all. Usually, this is because they’ve either been botched in the past, or out of fear that if too much weight is removed then their hair will be big and puffy. On the contrary, if not enough weight is removed, then you’ll be left with the dreaded triangle head.

Curly hair needs layers to move. Cutting vertical layers, and then going back in and cutting individual curls to break it up and give the hair some movement is best. This technique breaks up the layering, so the hair doesn’t have any strong or hard lines in it.

Root Clipping Might Be Your Secret Weapon

If you dont want to deal with lifting your hair at the roots yourself, root clipping is a great, easy-to-use option. Whether you opt to diffuse or air dry your fine, thin curly hair, by gently clipping the curls at the crown of your head, you can create natural volume as your hair dries.

Available in different sizes, root clips hold your hair up at the roots so that it isnt weighed down by your hair as it dries, creating a flatter surface at the top. When placed around the crown of your head at a 45-degree angle, the clips easily hold your hair in place without putting unwanted tension on your scalp. Of course, you can always expand your lifted section across your scalp so that your really thin curly hair is held up in more than one place.

Make Your Wig Thinner

Hold a portion of hair in one hand and your scissors in the other. Trim the part of hair. Just cut at an angle avoid cutting into the hair directly. Additionally, avoid getting too near to the scalp since short hair will stand straight up. The wig looks awful as a result. To prevent any mishaps, trim the hair a quarter of an inch at a time. You just comb the hair to remove the extra hair after cutting.

Why Is My Curly Hair Thinning

Hair loss and thinning can be caused by multiple things including hormones, stress, illness, and trauma.

Your hair naturally goes through three different cycles when it comes to hair growth. Anagen, the active phase of the hair. Catagen, a transitioning phase, and telogen, the dormant phase.

These phases can be disrupted by many different factors which can cause your hair to shed more than normal causing hair loss.

Curly Hair Routine For Thinning Hair Over 40

How to Style Low-Density/Thin Curls, Dos & Don’ts, Scalp Covering

I’ve been sharing more about my journey to reclaiming my curly hair from childhood on and wanted to jot down my current curly hair routine. Last May, I began transitioning to curly hair. I was born with curly hair but over the years the curl disappeared. Since turning 40, my hair has become harder to manage and has begun thinning. My stylist suggested coaxing out my natural curl to make styling easier and give an appearance of fuller hair. To read more about my curly hair journey you can read my post where I shared the curly hair community intimidated the hell out of me. But several months into this transition, this is my current curly hair routine for my thinning hair:

Option : Experiment With Other Haircuts

Often called an undercut, you see this hairstyle quite a bit in humid climates.

Shaving a few inches of hair off the nape of your neck is not going to thin the hair evenly, so you will be limited with the type of styles you can wear.

Also, this type of haircut is pretty much only possible with a shorter style.

And keep in mind that if you do decide to go with the undercut, that you will have to visit your stylist for a touch up once every couple months. Sooner if you want to keep it looking neat.

Know Your Curl Pattern

Curly hair is identified by the distinctive S-shaped curves with uniform wave patterns. The curlier your hair is, that S shape pattern will coil and can spring up all the way to a zig-zag pattern, Wiley explained. Curly hair is a rose by many different names: Curly, textured, coily, kinky, the list goes on and on.

Knowing your curl type, whether it is from 2a to 4c, can absolutely impact your relationship with your hair, as well as figuring out your hairs porosity, or its ability to absorb and hold moisture.

If you are not satisfied with the density, we suggest that you get a real human hair wig and trim it. Its quality surpasses that of the synthetic. Real human hair may be styled and is flexible. In addition, with correct care, it may survive for a very long period.

Additionally, pick the appropriate hair density for your wig to save time and money. There are numerous standard densities of hair wigs, including 130%, 150%, 180%, and 200. You may pick the best solution based on your current hair and get a sleek appearance. If youre a novice, seek advice from seasoned wearers or ask the vendor before committing.

Option : Shave Off All Your Hair

Pin on Curls

Okay, we kind of put this one in as a joke. Buuuuut

We know that if youve had long hair for a long time, its likely driving you crazy.

But its kind of like a love-hate relationship. You love your thick beautiful hair, but sometimes you just wish you could shave it all off.

Well.. you can. Youll look like a cancer patient for a while and will probably regret it. But its something that I believe every woman should do once in her life, just so she appreciates what she has.

How To Care For Thin Curly Hair: My Products And Rituals

HALLIE GOULD / Design by Zackary Angeline

Figuring out a hair routine that works for me has been a long and winding road. Doing so is sort of complicated, but not entirely so , and yet my hair still takes a bit of love to coax it into looking its best. My natural hair texture is really fine, but also quite curly. So you can see how that may lend to a hair product conundrum. Do I use formulas that nourish and hydrate the curls or those that volumize and lift ? I have curly hair, but it’s not coarse or thick, and it’s certainly not strong. For a long time, I only used hydrating and nourishing products and hated the results, and then years later only volumizing, and my hair broke off. It wasn’t until fairly recently that I figured it all out, found a routine that works for me, and invested in products that target my specific concerns.

Here, I’ll go through each one from start to finish. The shampoo, conditioner, and masks , as well as the styling products to give everything a little boostlift at the root, fluffy ’70s texture, et al. Of course, this routine is not one size fits all. Similar to skincare, haircare never is. But, if you find your hair, at one point or another, to be thin, dry, processed, curly, or breakage-prone, you’ll be able to pull out some helpful recs. This isall the information I’ve amassed on how best to work with my hair.

Option : Get Your Hair Thinned With Cold Water

Did you know that cold water can help thin your hair?

This one surprised us the first time we heard it, too. Well dont worry if you thought the only way to make your hair thinner was to get a haircut, because thats a common misconception.

Hot water causes the hair shaft to expand, giving the appearance of more volume. Combined with thick hair, this can lead to some serious poof.

Instead, try washing your hair with cold water instead. This will make your hair thinner and reduce volume, without affecting the overall length.

Thick hair also tends to hold moisture a little better than thin hair, meaning you can go a little easier on the conditioner if you want.

Layers Are A Girls Best Friend

Pro Tip: When choosing a stylist, try to find one that advertises curly haircuts, and especially one that cuts your curls dry. Unlike those ladies with naturally straight hair, curly hair looks completely different when its wet vs. dry. So it stands to reason that if you get your hair cut wet, it will look and fall completely differently once it dries.

What I Never Do With My Curly Hair

Curly Fine Thin Hair // MAKE IT LOOK THICKER AND LESS FRIZZY
  • Brush it. I haven’t used a brush or comb since May 2019. I don’t even use a wet brush on wet hair to detangle or spread conditioner. My hair is thin and the curl can come out easily, any tugging kills the curls. I will finger-comb when wet but that’s about it!
  • Straighten it. I got a blow-out in January after getting my roots done, but that was the first time my hair had been straightened in any way for months. Each time it’s straightened, the curls get confused and there’s some time for the hair to remember again how to curl just so.
  • Dry it with a towel. Towels will rough up the cuticle causing frizz and curls to break apart. There are great tools out there for curly hair microfiber towels and such. I just use old, soft t-shirts.
  • Yank it into a ponytail/topknot. My hair is just at the length where I can do that again, but pulling on the curls really pulls them out with my hair texture. I will put it into a loose ponytail under a ball cap for the gym, but revive the hair in the shower soon after. Even that I don’t do every day because it will cause the front of my hair to not keep curl.

I rarely stress about my hair anymore. Slightly frizzy and limp curly hair somehow looks more purposeful and cool than slightly frizzy and limp wavy hair, which is what I have dealt with for most of my adult life. Really bad hair days are rare, and when they happen I hide them under a hat. I now own six berets with one a knit and one raffia so they work past fall and winter!

Use A Pick To Fluff Your Hair

The best thing about using a hair pick to boost volume is that it is a low-risk, high-reward product. There is virtually no damage to the hair with this heatless method, and you will still be able to achieve great results.

Unlike other methods that leave your hair looking thin and unhealthy, the pick will give it much-needed thickness and body. Your crown will also appear more voluminous, giving your entire head of hair a more elegant look.

Here Is A Breakdown Of My Routine:

  • Shampoo with EVOLVh InstaVolume. I leave it in for a few minutes while I soap up. Rinse it out completely.
  • Spray the EVOLVh InstaVolume elixir liberally all over my hair. I try not to get much near the roots and focus more on the ends. I flip my hair and spray the underside as well. I let it sit a bit then squish in a little bit of water. Then I finger detangle with my head upside down.
  • Rake in a pea sized amount of the TreLuxe ReFlex serum. Shake and scrunch a little.
  • Rake in a nickel sized amount of EVOLVh Total Control Styling Creme. Shake and scrunch all over, flipping my head to the sides to ensure the curls fall naturally and avoid wonky sections. Scrunch in a pea sized amount of the styling creme to set the ends.
  • Microplop with my hair towel.
  • Wait a few minutes then pixie diffuse.
  • You can watch my full styling routine below.

And for the next day, I love using EVOLVHs UltraFlex hair spray along with some dry shampoo to add back in some volume. I use it if Ill be spending some time outside to help hold my style and whenever I decide to refresh my hair a bit.

Id love to hear if this routine works for anyone else. I know some of you who follow me on Instagram have seen my amazing results a few times, went ahead and ordered the InstaVolume line and have loved it as well.
