Ive tried a lot of different products to help nourish my dry and damaged hair, but the only thing that actually worked was switching to the curly girl method. As Ive said in previous posts, my hair was damaged from poor nutrition when I was younger, box dyes, bleach, hard water in different countries, and travel in general. It was a borderline nightmare for a long, long time.
But in all honesty, following the curly girl method and getting rid of sulphates, silicones, drying alcohols, and parabens did wonders for my hair, to the point where the only issue I really come up against now is the intense amount of time it takes to detangle my hair every 4-5 days in the shower. Oh my gosh it takes so long.
So when I heard about Olaplex, I decided to give it a shot.
Olaplex is supposed to temporarily fix broken bonds in your hair. While Olaplexs main draw card is that it can help repair bleached hair, broken bonds can happen through excessive heat styling, poor nutrition, and regular dying as well. Basically, if you have damaged hair, Olaplex can supposedly help with that.

This vegan hair serum contains caffeine and clover seed extract, phyto-actives that have been shown to increase the look of hair density and reduce signs of shedding for fuller, thicker hair.
According to the companys clinical trials, the product can increase the appearance of hair density by up to 52 percent and reduce signs of shedding by up to 76 percent. The product website states that you can expect fuller-looking hair in as little as 90 days, with best results at 120 days.
Overall, the serum receives a 4.4 out of 5 stars with over 2,300 reviews. Most of the reviews are glowing, while many of the 1-star reviews simply say the product didnt work.
Olaplex And Hair Loss: Have You Used The Product Correctly
If youre reading these lines, you already know that Olaplex is a three-step treatment. Steps 1 and 2 are done in the salon, and Step 3 can be done at home.
Why are steps 1 and 2 performed exclusively at the salon?
However, these products must be mixed and used in exact quantities. If the manufacturers indications arent followed, the result may not be the expected one.

If the product is not used properly, you wont get the desired results. In this case, it would be repaired and strengthened hair. Of course, if youve used it to repair your hair and it wasnt applied correctly, the product wont repair your hair. Itll still be fragile and prone to breakage. Then, possibly, hair loss will occur.

If your hair was damaged and you applied the Olaplex without following the instructions, itll still be damaged. Then, itll remain weak and eventually fall out.

Olaplex No 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo
This shampoo has the longest ingredients list Ive ever seen in a shampoo, and honestly I dont know why any product needs this many ingredients.
Its a sulfate-free shampoo, with bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate as the 10th ingredient mathematically this means it cant be higher than 10%, but practically speaking, and considering the percentages in Olaplex 2 and 3, its probably far below that. The amount of active ingredient seems a bit too low to be relying on this for repairing damaged hair, but thats probably why they brand it maintenance. It does look like a pretty nice shampoo though.
Does The N8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask Help Repair Damaged Hair
Yes, the N.°8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask provides intense hydration to your hair, thereby making it stronger, healthier, and shinier. You can use this moisture mask as often as you wash your hair.
You can leave the N.°8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask in your hair longer than the recommended amount of time as the brand claims that this product cannot be overused. However, make sure that you leave the moisture mask for at least the recommended amount of time or more to see effective results.

Olaplex For Curly Hair Is Awesome
Just like for any other kind of hair, really. From my personal experience, its hands down one of the easiest, and most effective way to undo months or even years of damage . I recommend getting the salon treatments before using Olaplex for curls at home because thats how you get to experience the real strength and power of this miraculous hair treatment. Just keep in mind that if your hair is very damaged, you might need more than one session at a salon and at home to really bring your hair back to life.

The comments on this site have confirmed that my gut feeling was accurate. The use of the Olaplex line has contributed to my massive hair loss and has drastically decreased my curl thickness. My curls are no longer curly. The bounce is gone.
I stopped using the products today and will look into alternate products to help prevent further loss and damage. I am submitting an official complaint about this to the FDA.
