Is My Hair Too Thin For Extensions

Don’t Wash Your Hair Too Often

HOW TO: Applying Hair Extensions to Thin Hair!

Try to wash your hair less frequently. I usually manage to only wash my hair twice a week. This allows the natural oils to condition your hair and keeps breakage to a minimum.

Since your hair is thin, it probably becomes greasy as well. Washing your hair too often will only encourage your scalp to produce even more oil, thus making it greasy faster. Having said that, also try to not let your hair become too greasy. I find if my fine, thin hair is too dirty, it starts shedding more than usual. So, it’s all about keeping some balance. Try this process for washing your hair:

  • Mix sunflower oil, rosemary oil, and jojoba oil together and really soak your hair with it. Sunflower oil is brilliant for damaged hair. Also, both rosemary and jojoba oil stimulate cell division and dilate blood vessels which, in turn, stimulate hair follicles and blood flow to the scalp.
  • Leave the mixture in your hair for an hour and then rinse it out with organic apple cider vinegar . The vinegar balances out your natural pH levels, and it wont dry out your scalp like most shampoos will. ACV revitalizes your hair and leaves it soft and shiny.
  • These ingredients are cheap and available at any supermarket or pharmacy.

Take Collagen And B Vitamins Regularly For Thicker Hair

My absolute favorite recommendation for thickening fine hair is to incorporate collagen into your diet regularly. I use the Neocell Super Collagen powder . In the beginning, I started this regimen for my skin but was thrilled to see my hair looking a lot fuller and bouncier after about 78 weeks of use. My hair also grew by a good two extra inches with this product. Other vitamins for excellent hair health include mainly B vitamins. Brewers Yeast is therefore a sensible and cheap option as it contains B1 , B2 , B3 , B5 , B6 , B9 and B7 .

The regular intake of collagen and B vitamins has been shown to support and increase the body’s hair-building proteins. Although I would highly recommend collagen intake, make sure it is not in any way replacing a normal, healthy diet. Collagen will work much better when combined with a diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins!

Thinning hair and balding can occur for a variety of reasons and is not just hereditary.

Lets Do A Thin Hair & Extension Test Run

Thin hair can be caused by so many different factors like hormones, hormone changes post birth, medication, anesthesia, stress, malnutrition, food sensitivities, health not being at optimal levels, bad hair styling tools, exposure to different chemicals and so much more.

My first recommendation to all my clients with thinning hair is to try and work on what is causing hair loss internally, while I work on making them look great externally. My number one goal is to ensure each of my clients maintains or improves the health of their hair. If I know/think/suspect that something will cause damage to any of my clients thin hair, I will advise them to not get the service done and help find alternatives.

This amazing woman came to me, and because her hair was so delicate, I was not 100% sure her thin hair could handle hair extensions, so I did what I call a Test Run, and put a few rows of custom-size/tiny bonded hair extensions throughout her head. I did check ups on her every few weeks for a total of 6 weeks, to assess her hair health and we decided that in fact her thin hair could handle hair extensions without ripping her hair, so we went for the fuller versions this time. Here are her before and after pics. I love that she wanted to play up net natural grey streaks and she now looks like a superhuman from X-Men!

    Braided Weft Hair Extensions

This is a time-consuming way of getting hair extensions. It involves having your entire head of hair braided into rows. A stylist will then sew the wefts of hair extensions into the braided rows.

This is not a recommended technique for low density or fine hair as you wont have enough hair to create braids to secure the wefts, and it can cause tugging and breakage.

    Hot Fusion Hair Extensions

Mount And Blade: My Hair Is So Thin After Extensions

A tried and tested traditional method for adding hair extensions to hair, extension hair is bonded to the natural hair using a heat tool and glue. Whilst modern extensions use keratin which dries clear and looks natural, the process of removing fusion hair extensions is incredibly intricate and sometimes requires pliers. If not removed correctly by a professional this method could cause damage and breakages to finer hair.

With correct fitting, care and aftercare, hair extensions can be a great option for anyone looking for a hair boost, regardless of their hair type. Whichever option you prefer, be sure to book a consultation appointment before your fitting, to make sure your choice is the right one for your hair.

First Mistake Giving In To The Urge To Use Too Many Tracks

Most packs come with more than enough, dare I say almost too much, hair?

Yet just because you suddenly find yourself with this abundance of gorgeous hair riches doesnt mean you have to use it all at once.

This use-it-or-lose-it mindset is the first way you can stray from the best way to use hair extensions.

So yeah, most often it is NOT a good idea to use all there is. Nowhere close.

So when it comes to the How much hair to use? question heres the answer. Maybe at most half of all that hair goodness should end up on your head.

Most of the time you only need maybe two to four wefts to bulk up your do nicely.

Also what the how much question really all comes down to is how much natural hair you have.

The perverse problem you face is this if you are light on top, you wont be able to go all out with extensions without exposing the fact in public. Not good.

Stylist tip: Before placing your order you should decide if you are going for length or volume. While it seems like common sense, to get the most out of your extensions you need the know what you are trying to achieve. You should probably give some thought to the texture of your hair to insure the best match too.

Anyway, dont feel like you have to pile on the wefts.

Use only the number it makes sense to use.

Use only the amount of clips you can conceal from view.

Overdoing can be embarrassing since it is a surefire way to end up with hair that looks oh so unnatural.

What Types Of Hair Extensions Can You Get

If there’s one person that knows everything there is to know about hair extensions it’s Sarah McKenna aka the ex-biochemist, hairdresser and owner of the hottest hair extension salon in London, Vixen & Blush .

Renowned for creating natural-looking extensions that are super high quality and custom-made to fit you , Sarah is the go-to on how to nab Blake Lively’s ‘do and avoid the dreaded Jodie Marsh mullet.

‘There are a vast number of ways to fit additional hair but there are three main categories,’ explains McKenna.

How About Braided Weft Hair Extensions On Thin Hair

Hair Extensions For My Thinning Hair and How I Apply Them

Braided Weft Hair Extension requires that the natural hair be braided first. After that, the wefts of the extensions are sewn into the braided rows to cover the whole hair regions on the head. Unfortunately, people with thin hair do not have sufficient volume to form a tuft that will hold the extension to the braids.

Another important fact to consider is that the weight of hair extension can cause additional stress and tension. That is why it is crucial for people with thin hair to select lightweight hair extensions only. It seems obvious that the strand-by-strand option is the best method for applying a light-weight extension to the hair. On the other hand, there is a high risk of hair damage when individual pieces of extension are bound to thin natural hair.

The tape-in hair extensions provide a lightweight option that does not need glue, special tools, or fusion type of bonding to stay in place. The single method of application allows the hair to be linked firmly to the extension with a piece of tape. Unlike other methods, the weight of the extension on the hair is reduced extensively. That is why this method poses the least risk of hair damage to thin hair.

What Is Thin Or Low Density Hair

First, thin hair can be defined in a couple of different ways. It can refer to the number of hairs that you have on your head. So, if the number is low that means you have low-density hair. The other definition describes how thick the individual hairs are. You might not have low-density hair, but the individual hairs could be weak or thin.

Women have thin hair for different reasons. It could be genetics, or maybe your hair was damaged because of the use of hot tools, different chemicals. Another cause for thin hair is incorrect or too aggressive hair dyeing and or bleaching. Please be very careful with your hair because it might cause thinning issues.

Its also very problematic since hair is so fragile that you cant dye it. The same goes for the use of curling irons or cool, trendy hairstyles. That can be a real bummer or the reason for a lot of frustration and disappointment. Sadly, there is no natural way that you can make your hair much thicker, so many girls feel kind of stuck with it. There are shampoos, conditioners and vitamins, but these usually work best if the root cause is not genetics. Even then it can take months if not years to fix the root cause, especially if you continue to dye or curl your already fragile hair.

Luckily, extensions exist and are the perfect way to add volume to your hair!

Is My Hair Too Thin To Loc

Thinner hair means there are fewer strands of hair per square inch on ones scalp. This also means you will have to do larger sections to lock so that the dreads have the right amount of hair to form a solid coil. Hair density also usually varies over different areas of the scalp because of genetics or hair follicles that no longer produce hair. The challenge with uneven density and thinness of hair is trying to balance it while sectioning the dreads so that they have a uniform size.

In some cases, naturally thin or thinning hair can be hidden by dreads, while in others, it is accentuated. The dreads would need to be larger than usual because a loc needs enough hair for it to hold itself together and look decent. If your hair is so thin that you end up with only 12-20 dreads, then it will only call more attention to the sparseness of your hair.

If your hair is thinning, its recommended to figure out the reason first before going ahead with getting dreadlocks. If its because of age or something else that is inevitable, you can actually use dreads to compensate for the thinning areas.

Tip #: Conceal Hair Thinning With A Clip

Why Is My Hair So Thin?

One of the best things about clip-in hair extensions is their ability to help you create a wide array of different hair styles, instantly. You can give your wimpy, lifeless pony a boost by putting in a clip-in ponytail, or add some volume with a clip-in bun. Your hair just needs to be long enough to tie into a ponytail or bun for the clip to attach. If you want to achieve the voluminous bun of your dreams, first put your natural hair up in a bun and then install the clip-in bun using the tiny interior combs. Make sure to slightly tease the bun and create some fluffy volume before securing it with bobby pins.

With these tips in mind, youre well on your way to having the thicker, fuller hair of your dreams. Our best hair extensions for thinning hair will help you achieve a natural look in seconds.

So Are Any Of These Extensions Truly Safe For Your Scalp

So, are any of these extensions truly safe for your scalp?

The honest answer is, no. They all pose a risk for causing traction alopecia. They can all cause hair thinning, and in worse case scenarios, permanent damage to hair follicles causing large, unsightly bald spots.

However, if you are accustomed to using extensions, choose wisely based on your hair type. If you have fine hair, it may not be able to handle the added weight or certain types of extensions. Whenever possible, make sure your stylist is well-educated on applying them so that they minimize scalp damage.

Without an ample blood supply reaching your hair follicle they will quickly atrophy and die. That blood is supplying your hair follicles all the vitamins, minerals, and oxygen they need to grow your hair.
