Mycotoxins are toxic chemical products that tend to be produced by mould and fungus.

There’s actually been a lot of uproar over the years about people breathing in mycotoxins from mouldy rooms, with lawsuits taking place against companies.

The WHO says that exposure to mycotoxins can cause a variety of health problems and that it can eventually lead to things like cancer.

The NHS also says that if you have mould and damp in your home, you’re more likely to have breathing problems, respiratory infections, allergies or asthma.

Moulds produce allergens , irritants and, sometimes, toxic substances. Inhaling or touching mould spores may cause an allergic reaction, such as sneezing, a runny nose, red eyes and skin rash.

Moulds can also cause asthma attacks.

And these can also be a lot more severe – as in Emma’s case.

She then found out that she needed her appendix removed after experiencing severe belly pain.

Emma was passed from doctor to doctor – all of whom were baffled by her body’s extreme reactions.

“Nobody ever questioned why my body broke down so severely in so many different ways. I was simply called unlucky.”

But over the following four years, she’s been wracked by flu-like symptoms, pain, headache, memory loss, brain fog, rashes, insomnia, acne, thinning hair and facial swelling.

Because the doctors couldnt find anything, you think its all in your head and so just feel like you have to get on with it, she continued.

Besides medications, the treatment for hair loss can also include a hair transplant. In this procedure, small pieces of the scalp containing hair follicles are transferred to the bald areas. The surgery can be risky because it involves the usual risks of surgery, including shock and pain. Furthermore, it is expensive and is often not covered by insurance. But if you dont want to live with a bald area thats affecting your confidence and your appearance, hair transplant surgery may be the right option.

If the baldness is caused by a fungal infection, you can consider undergoing a hair transplant. In this procedure, tiny pieces of scalp are removed and moved to the bald spots. Despite the risks, this procedure is highly effective and is often covered by health insurance plans. A hair transplant can cost thousands of dollars, and you will most likely need to pay a large part of it out of pocket. The only downside to hair transplant surgery is the high cost.

Although alopecia is an embarrassing problem for many people, it can also be caused by trauma. People who undergo painful procedures on their hair may be at risk for traumatizing alopecia. This condition often results in thinning or falling hair. In some cases, the scalp becomes red and the scalp can even become inflamed. Antibiotics and antimalarial drugs may also be prescribed to help treat this disorder.

How Do We Get Exposed To Mold

We can become exposed to mold pretty much anywhere.

It can attach itself to clothing and can enter your house through open windows, doors, and vents. The problem with mold is that it produces spores. When released in the air, these spores will float around the entire home.

You will then inhale these spores or be exposed to them through the skin. As they are microscopic, you will be unaware of the damage they are causing to your health until you start seeing the effects.

Another way that you could be exposed to mold is through the food you eat.

How To Identify Mold That Causes Hair To Fall Out

While there is no way to visually identify mold that is directly on your scalp, objects that display signs of black mold, whether it be articles of clothing, bedding, or select locations in the home or workplace, should be singled out as potential sources for hair loss-inducing mold. Once infected, you may experience mild to moderate itchiness, a slight reddening of the skin, and an off, musty scent coupled with the excessive production of sebum, which are natural oils produced by the scalp to protect the hair.

This will then result in build-up, which will appear as dandruff flakes, but with a musty odor.

Mold Symptoms And Ear Infection

Here is an example of how the first problem occurs. When mold enters the body, typically by inhalation, it is attacked by white blood cells via a specific cytokine called interleukin. The interleukin kills the mold but the white blood cells engaged in the immune response often burst and release caustic, major basic proteins . This acid-like protein burns pits into the sinus lining. The pits become a trap for bacteria which causes infection, pain, and swelling in the sinuses. The pitting keeps the conditions ripe for the immediate return of the infection. Antibiotics that prevent fluid build-up do not treat the condition that causes the pitting they merely provide a temporary relief. The pits will not begin to heal until your body stops having to fight against mold.

Another way cytokines are a problem is that they circulate throughout the body causing a systemic immune reaction creating symptoms such as: muscle and joint pain, fibromyalgia, fatigue, bloating, gas, diarrhea, memory and concentration problems, vessel inflammation, dizziness, headaches, ear infections, and many others problems.

Can Mold Allergies Cause Your Hair To Fall Out

People who are allergic to mold are at higher risk of suffering hair loss when exposed to this allergen. Allergic reactions, causing hair loss, can be triggered by both black “toxic” mold or other molds found in the house.

Allergic reactions cause the body to produce histamine, an inflammation-causing substance that results in the disruption of blood flow to the capillaries. The capillaries in the scalp nourish the hair follicles. Hair loss may result when blood flow to these capillaries is disturbed as a result of an allergic reaction to mold. Hair loss, in this case, will be diffuse over the entire head

Hair loss can also result from fungal infections in the scalp, caused by constant exposure to mold spores in the house. In this case the mold infects the out layer of the skin, leading to rashes, scaling, small sores and other visible symptoms, which in turn can lead to patches of hair loss.

To reverse the hair loss, the first step is to remove mold from the house. If the exposure to mold has been limited and has not resulted in the death of the hair follicles, the hair loss caused by allergies to mold, or by fungal infections on the scalp, can be reversed.

    Can Mold Cause Burning Eyes

How much irritation is experienced depends on the concentration of mold spores you are exposed to. These particulates of mold cause inflammation or a burning sensation in the eye after being attached to the mucous membranes of their mannans and glucans. Mold spores can cause the eyes to become bloodshot and watery.

Nevertheless, removing certain mold infested materials such as carpeting and ceiling tiles can pose quite a challenge, but if the mole invasion is too heavy, it is worthwhile to dispose them too. After dealing with your mold related issues, seek the services of your doctor or allergist to prescribe antifungal treatments which include sprays, creams or any form of oral medications that you can easily apply to the affected areas of you head.
