Does Not Enough/too Much Hair Washing Cause Dandruff

Does Creatine Cause HAIR LOSS?

Stephanie Sey a Trichologist for Nizoral stresses how much you need to wash your hair will depend on several factors such as your activity levels and how your scalp behaves.

If you have an oily scalp you may need to wash your hair far more than someone who does not.

She said: If you are not washing your hair enough, your scalp will tell you about it it will itch and possibly become flakey.

Your hair will look lank and will not hold styles very well.

Although the chances of dandruff may increase if you do not wash your hair enough, washing it more may not cause dandruff to go away as there may be other factors behind it.

Considerations For Pharmaceutical Treatment

Improving clinical indicators and patients health is paramount when selecting pharmaceutical treatment options and there are several factors that need to be taken into consideration. Given that weight gain is a commonly reported side effect for many medications, clinicians should strive to prescribe medication with more favorable weight-related outcomes whenever clinically possible. With the overwhelming evidence of the health risk of excess weight and the association of gaining weight and nonadherence to medication, it is important to discuss and evaluate this potential side effect with the patient when prescribing a medication.

Where it is not possible to add an adjunctive therapy due to drug interactions or cost, patients should be made aware of the weight change potential, and research suggests that implementing lifestyle changes may be beneficial to combat the weight gaining effects. For example, a study which compared metformin therapy alone and in addition to a lifestyle modification program observed greater weight loss in the group participating in the lifestyle modification .

Sexual And Hormonal Problems

Does Smoking Cause Hair Loss?

Sexual problems are a possible side effect of certain antipsychotics. The symptoms vary for different people, and may include:

  • acne
  • increased hair growth across the face and body
  • osteoporosis
  • reduced sexual desire, difficulty getting aroused and inability to orgasm
  • breast development and the production of breast milk. This can affect anyone, including if you were assigned male at birth.

If you have a penis, you may experience spontaneous ejaculation or priapism . If you experience priapism, it requires urgent medical attention. Contact your GP for an urgent appointment or go to Accident & Emergency .

If you have a vagina, you may experience vaginal dryness. And if you would normally have periods, they might stop or become irregular. But these changes can be unpredictable. Your periods may return, so you could still get pregnant if you have unprotected sex.

Some second generation antipsychotics may be less likely to cause these sexual side effects. You can speak to your doctor, psychiatrist or pharmacist if you are concerned about these effects.

“Amisulpride has made my breasts grow and lactate. After having blood tests, it turns out that my prolactin levels have sky-rocketed, which is why I experienced those side effects. I am also now at risk of osteoporosis in the future.”

Pharmacological Treatment Of High Prolactin Levels

One recent study has shown that use of Dopamine Receptor Agonists such as Bromocriptine, Cabergoline, Pergolide and Quinagolide significantly reduces the levels of Prolactin in the body due to increased secretion of Dopamine.

All of these dopamine agonists have the same mechanism of action and minimal side effects. However, studies have shown that Cabergoline has the highest efficacy and drug tolerability for children and adolescents. Hence, Cabergoline should be the drug-of-choice for the treatment of Hyperprolactinemia, especially in young children and teenagers.

High Prolactin levels are emerging as a potential reason for increased hair loss in many people. Hence, levels of Prolactin should be checked in case of massive hair loss or Alopecia in order to treat these issues accordingly.

Can Risperidone Paliperidone Or First Generation Antipsychotic Medications Cause Elevated Or High Prolactin Levels And Related Side Effects Such As Sexual Dysfunction Gynecomastia Or Galactorrhea

Many antipsychotic medications can cause elevations in prolactin . Risperidone, paliperidone and first generation antipsychotic medications can produce particularly large elevations in prolactin, sometimes resulting in secondary side effects. Clinicians can order serum prolactin levels to determine the extent to which prolactin is elevated. Elevated prolactin has been described as above the upper laboratory limit up to 118 ng/ml , and highly elevated as above those levels. In managing hyperprolactinemia, a first step is to exclude other causes of hyperprolactinemia, while monitoring the occurrence of side effects. There are multiple potential side effects. In women, these include irregular menstrual periods or amenorrhea, vaginal dryness, galactorrhea, and hirsutism. In men, these include erectile dysfunction, decreased body and facial hair, and gynecomastia. In both sexes, these include loss of interest in sexual activity, infertility, and possibly decreased bone mineral density and mood symptoms. These can be a substantial issue for patients. They should lead to a risk-benefit discussion between patients and clinicians. Switching to an antipsychotic medication with lower liability to increase prolactin is often the first choice. Some clinicians have added aripiprazole in an effort to reduce hyperprolactinemia, or tried to address side effects by adding medications to address individual side effects, such as medications for erectile dysfunction.

Seriously, not to make light of your situation, I haven’t lost any weight while on the drug. I’m at 2 months also. My weight fluctuates between 125 and 130, but it always has. I don’t think it’s gotten any worse with Accutane. You should probably ask your derm at your next appointment. It could be something non accutane related, so you may also want to ask your regular doctor. Good luck. Let us know what happens.

What Drugs Interact With Invega Sustenna

Because paliperidone palmitate is hydrolyzed to paliperidone, results from studies with oralpaliperidone should be taken into consideration when assessing drug-druginteraction potential.

Potential For Invega Sustenna To Affect Other Drugs

Paliperidone may antagonize the effect of levodopa andother dopamine agonists.

Because of its potential for inducing orthostatichypotension, an additive effect may occur when Invega Sustenna is administered with other therapeutic agents that have this potential.

No dose adjustment is necessary for lithium when it iscoadministered with Invega Sustenna. Pharmacokinetic interaction betweenInvega Sustenna and lithium is unlikely.

No dose adjustment is necessary for valproate when Invega Sustenna is added to the therapy. Steady-state pharmacokinetics of valproate was not affected when patients were coadministered oral paliperidone extended-release tablets.

Paliperidone is not expected to cause clinically important pharmacokinetic interactions with drugs that are metabolized by cytochrome P450 isozymes.

Potential For Other Drugs To Affect Invega Sustenna

On initiation of strong inducers of both CYP3A4 and P-gp, it may be necessary toincrease the dose of Invega Sustenna. Conversely, on discontinuation of thestrong inducer, it may be necessary to decrease the dose of Invega Sustenna.

No dose adjustment is necessary for Invega Sustenna when valproate is added to treatment.
