Can Your Hair Grow With A Durag On

Does Wearing a Durag Thin Your Hair?

I have a mini fro going on and was wondering if I were to wear a silk durag with a wool hat on top everyday would the growth of my hair slow down or stop or something? No. Itll actually grow by retaining your hair. Its super important to leave the hair alone, but knowing when to water and feed it like a plant.

Dont Wash Your Hair Every Day

Cut down the number of times you shampoo your afro hair to once a week, especially if you use sulphate-based shampoos. Sulphate-based shampoos are powerful cleaners but use harsh compounds that strip your hair of its natural oils , causing dryness and irritation.

If you wash your hair three, four or five times a week using these shampoos, youll damage and dry out your scalp, as well as reduce the overall strength of your hair.

Another way to treat hair loss is to undergo a surgical procedure. This is a surgery that uses a small piece of scalp, which contains hair follicles. The procedure is expensive and is not covered by insurance. If the balding area is large, it may not be possible to find sufficient hair for transplant. This method requires two surgeries, so the cost can vary from person to person. The surgery can be covered by your insurance provider, but it is not cheap.

Surgical procedures to correct the underlying problem are available as well. In some cases, doctors may use birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy, or antiandrogen medications to correct the hormonal imbalances. If the cause of your hair loss is a psychiatric disorder, you will need to consult with a doctor to determine the best treatment options for you. Sometimes, you may need to undergo more than one surgery, so it is best to seek help from a dermatologist.

The first step in treating hair loss is to see a doctor. Your physician will run a blood test to determine the cause of your hair loss. This will help you choose the most effective treatment. Your doctor may prescribe a medication to stop your hair growth. Patients with psychiatric problems may also require special consultations and treatments. A therapist will be able to help you deal with your underlying psychiatric condition.

Hair Loss Is Passed Down From Your Mothers Side

Genetics do play a major role in hair loss. However, you are just as likely to share the baldness trait with someone from your fathers side of the family as much as your mothers side. Prior research has suggested that the so-called hair loss gene is passed down via the X chromosome we receive from our mother. More recent studies have identified a number of hair loss genes that are located on both the X and Y chromosomes. Simply meaning, there are a variety of genetic factors that can influence hair loss, not just a single gene found on the X chromosome.

“Hair loss is not limited to the maternal side of the family. The hair loss gene can come from either parent. The gene that primary causes baldness is on the X chromosome, which men get only from their mothers, but there are other contributing factors. While the hereditary factor is slightly more dominant on the woman’s side, research suggests that men who have a bald father are more likely to develop male pattern baldness than those who don’t.”

Will Wearing Hats Make You Go Bald

12 March 12

Humans have a long love affair with hats. From bowlers to beanies, hat styles might come and go, but headgear has been with us for thousands of years. But is there a hidden danger in hats? Rumor has it that wearing hats could cause hair loss. Could hats really make you go bald?

The short answer: probably not, says Aman Samrao, a dermatologist at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Samrao studies traction alopecia, one of the mechanisms suggested for how hats might make people lose their hair. Traction alopecia happens when you put a lot of stress on the hair follicle, and the hairline recedes because of that pulling. It happens most frequency in African American women who have worn their hair in tight braids since they were young. But it can happen to anyone who puts continued stress on their follicles, through hair extensions, and other hairstyles. Samrao even documented traction alopecia in a ballerina who wore her hair in a tight bun most of the time.

But hats dont provide nearly enough tension to cause alopecia, Samrao says. I dont see how a hat could cause that, unless youre wearing it so tightly that its pulling your hair.

People are always looking for answers to baldness, Samrao says. Everyone wants to know why theyre going bald. Thankfully, they can probably take hat wearing off the list of suspects.
