However, drugs that induce enzymes that process LNG may decrease LNG levels, making the IUD less effective. How Long Does It Last
Unlike birth control pills, which you have to take daily, Kyleena is good for about 5 years, which is when the amount of hormones in the device drops to a level that makes pregnancy possible again. If pregnancy is not in the future plans, then Kyleena needs to be removed after the 5th year, and replaced, or another birth control method needs to be used after removal.
It can be replaced with a new Kyleena device if continued contraceptive protection is wanted.
Kyleena, due to how it needs to be inserted and all that jazz, does need a prescription and a doctors visit to get, so unfortunately, its not something like condoms where all it takes is a quick trip to the pharmacy.
However, once its in, its in for the 5 years, unless something happens and it comes loose, which most of the time will happen before that follow up visit and will be easily spotted by the doctor.

Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant.
Do not give it to a child.
Do not use Kyleena and speak to your doctor if you have or have had any of the following medical conditions:
- if you have pelvic inflammatory disease or have had recurrent pelvic inflammatory disease in the past
- if you have conditions associated with an increased risk of developing pelvic infections
- if you have a lower genital tract infection that has not been successfully treated by your doctor
- an infection of the womb following childbirth or after an abortion in the last three months
- infection or cell abnormalities in the cervix
- tumours in the cervix or womb
- progestogen dependent tumours
- abnormal cervix or womb, or fibroids which distort the cavity of the womb
- liver disease or liver tumours
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date printed on the pack. If it has expired or is damaged, return it to your pharmacist for disposal. The expiry date is printed on the carton and sachet after âTo be inserted beforeâ . The expiry date refers to the last day of that month by which it should be inserted.
