Recently, I did a complete blog on how TRESemme has been a leading cause of hair damage and loss among girls. I tried this as my hair is very dark brown . Not only did it not deposit color, but as described by the TB reviewer, it left it feeling like straw. BTW, the conditioner that goes with this is no better. It stains your hands, doesn’t deposit color, and has no conditioning effect at all. Your hair feels like you didn’t even use a conditioner. They have some great products, but not this.

While the company has not commented on pending litigation, the company stated in their public statement that the beauty industry widely used DMDM hydantoin, and health authorities confirmed it is a safe and effective preservative. Therefore, they maintain the concentration used in cosmetics is safe.

Suave Keratin infusion treatments have caused womens hair to fall out in clumps, split off, turn discolored, and burn their scalps.

It was taken from the market in March 2012, but some plaintiffs claim that there should have been an official Suave smoothing kit recall because many women suffered hair loss from items that were still on shop shelves across the country at that time.

It was found that the companys activities constituted a recall that affected more than 380,000 kits, according to an FDA enforcement report published in June 2012. The study adds that many customer complaints led to the recall.

In 2016, an appeals court affirmed a $10.2 million settlement for claimants who had suffered hair loss and scalp discomfort as a result of the litigation.

Those who just bought a smoothing kit can get a $10 reimbursement from the reimbursement fund. Those who have additional costs for hair loss treatments after utilizing the kit but do not have receipts will be reimbursed $40 by the injury fund. It will pay up to $800 to people who have medical or hair treatment expenditures and have kept their receipts, and up to $25,000 to those who have suffered serious hair or scalp injuries.

Consumers Suffer Tresemm Hair And Scalp Damage

Lipetz, 67, purchased TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Color between January and February and used the product for two weeks. She says she stopped when she began experiencing redness, hotness and itchiness on her scalp and noticed she was developing bald spots.

Keeners experience was more severe, she says. The 32-year-old bought the same shampoo as Lipetz, plus the TRESemmé keratin conditioner. She used the products for two months and in the end had to seek medical treatment, according to the class action lawsuit.

Keener noticed scalp irritation, blisters, pimples, and a burning sensation on her scalp after the first few uses. After continued use of the products also began experiencing hair loss, where clumps of hair would fall out when showering, brushing, or even touching her hair, the class action lawsuit says.

In February, she sought medical treatment from her primary care doctor and dermatologist due to the continued irritation to her scalp and hair loss.

She was prescribed a medicated shampoo to treat the injury, she says.

Nowhere on the package labeling or on Unilevers websites or other marketing materials did Unilever warn that they were at risk of significant hair loss and/or scalp irritation, the class action alleges.

The below ingredients are the damaging chemicals found in the Tresemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo that was the catalyst for the lawsuit, as well as many of their other products. Well explain the big one in a minute.

1. Sulfates

You may have heard the term sulfates tossed around before. However, there are so many different types of sulfates its hard to keep track. The most popular are sodium laureth sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate .

Both SLES and SLS are surfactants that help cleanse and emulsify within the product. Its significant not to confuse the two because they are different. SLES is deemed to be mild and less irritating than SLS.
