Hair Care : How to Tell If Your Hair Is Thinning

There are some things you can do on your own. You might check with your stylist or try some of these:

  • Coloring your hair adds volume to the strands, making your hair seem fuller.
  • Massaging your head, like when you are washing your hair, can stimulate blood flow to the scalp and hair follicles.
  • Getting your hair cut shorter, and having layers added, can make your hair seem fuller.
  • Using the right kind of shampoo can also help. Look for a shampoo that adds volume without using sulfate detergents.
  • Using the right kind of product at the right time can also help. There are products that add volume that you add while your hair is still wet. However, using too much product can add weight.

Balance Your Gut Biome

A growing body of evidence suggests that the guts microbiome is critical to the growth of healthy hair. Not only does it regulate the production of the nutrients growing hair needs, but it also creates conditions within the body that encourage healthy hair, including the hormones that regulate the various phases of hair growth. Support your microbiome by adding a probiotic formula designed to support hair wellness to your daily routine.

Autoimmune Diseases That Affect Hair

Alopecia areata is often associated with an autoimmune disease, so it’s thought that some forms of hair loss can be caused by one of these medical conditions or is at least somehow related to it. Diabetes and lupus are two autoimmune diseases that can result in hair loss. This type of hair loss may not always be reversible it may sometimes be permanent. But medications and hair restoration surgeries may help compensate for any hair loss.

Let’s start with the obvious. Excessive shedding is often the first sign guys notice when they start losing their hair. It’s perfectly natural to lose between 50 and 100 strands of hair per day, so some hairs in the shower drain doesn’t mean you need to call a doctor. But if you start seeing a noticeable amount of hair on your pillowcase when you wake up, stuck in your comb or brush, or stuck in the drain during a shower, it might be a good time to consider hair loss treatment options to get ahead of the storm.

What Are The Signs Of Balding

There are several different signs that you might be starting to experience hair loss .

From thinning hair all over your head to a receding hairline, male pattern baldness comes in many forms.

Recognizing the signs of male pattern baldness is an important part of the treatment or prevention process.

Because male pattern baldness occurs in stages, it may be possible to recognize the signs early enough to reverse hair loss or prevent any further damage to your hairline.

Below, weve listed three warning signs that you should be aware of, as well as simple but effective ways that you can take action to prevent your hair loss from getting worse.

Causes Of Hair Loss And Baldness

A variety of factors from illness to poor nutrition to hormonal imbalances to major stress can contribute to hair loss. If you’re experiencing thinning hair or baldness, you need to get to the root of the problem to determine the best treatment.

Hair loss whether baldness or noticeably thinning hair can occur for a number of different reasons. Sometimes hair loss is a side effect of a health problem that needs to be addressed and will remedy itself when the health problem is properly treated. When hair loss is due to a condition involving the hair itself, as in the case of alopecia, the hair loss can be permanent.

Stop Heat Styling As Often

Because heat styling puts extra stress on thinning hair, Syfu says to give the hot tools a break so you won’t accidentally exacerbate breakage and hair loss. When you do reach for your curling iron, make sure that you always use a heat protectant to prevent frying your hair and making the situation worse.

A Receding Hairline In Boys

How to Know If Your Hair is Thinning (Male Version)

As we age, our hairline changes. There are two types of hairlines to be aware of: a maturing hairline, and a receding one. A maturing hairline is a natural process that takes place during late adolescence. It is normal and will happen in all boys, much like a deeper voice and hairy torso.

On the other hand, a receding hairline is problematic and signals a deeper issue. This is usually male pattern baldness, or androgenetic alopecia . Unless treated in time, a receding hairline will keep on getting worse with time.

The main way to discern between a maturing and receding hairline is by looking at the pattern.

An even hairline one that keeps a consistent line from temple to temple is the main sign of a maturing hairline. An uneven hairline that is more recessed at the temples is a sign of a receding hairline, unless you have a natural widows peak, which further complicates the issue .

Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia

Central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia may occur as a result of hair products or styling techniques that damage hair follicles. The use of hair relaxers, blow dryers, curling irons, and hair extensions can cause central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia, as can the process of creating a permanent wave, or a perm.

The frequent application of oils, gels, or pomades can also cause this condition, which may be reversible if you stop using these hair products or styling techniques. Our dermatologists may recommend taking medication to help hair grow back.

Tips For Styling Thin Hair

Styling thin hair is similar to styling fine hair: youre going to be looking for root lifts, says Hall. Things like dry shampoo, mousses, and thickening sprays can all help create volume and fullness where there isnt any naturally. Unless you have fine and thin hair, you could also use a thickening paste, which is more of a creamy pomade, or a lightweight balm if you have a shorter style and want more hold. Salt sprays, when sprayed on damp hair and left to dry, can create natural-looking texture and volume as well.

When youre choosing products, avoid shine. Use light, matte, not-shiny products to give you some texture that doesnt look too structured, says Axe master barber Pedro Rosario. Think about it: you may notice more scalp through thin hair when its wet, so products that are shiny will give the same effect. And if you know that your hair is actually thinning, and not just naturally thin, Hall recommends looking for treatment-based products that will help style your hair without damaging it further. A shampoo or conditioner, for instance, thats specifically formulated for thinning hair will likely contain ingredients to help keep the scalp and hair follicles healthy and the hair strong.

Why A Full Head Of Hair Is The Ultimate Accessory And What To Do If Yours Thins

Caring about our appearance is something that we all do, whether we are conscious of it or not. From making a good first impression to quite literally keeping up appearances, looking and feeling comfortable in your appearance does wonders for confidence and self-esteem levels.

While we recognize that there is more to your overall character than how you look, we feel confident many would agree that it contributes significantly to how you feel. Not to mention, many people express their personality and character through their appearance, so of course, we would pay close attention to how we look.

For many people, their hair is a significant part of who they are. Being able to express yourself through eye-catching hairstyles and hair colors is relished by many and is something we see throughout the wider world. TikTok, for example, fuelled the comeback of the mullet throughout the pandemic, when many of us were unable to visit a hairdresser for a well-needed trim.

While that is very well the case, and we can all agree that having a full head of hair as the ultimate accessory is important, there might come the time when you find that you are experiencing hair thinning. Initially, this could be something difficult to process, particularly if you love the hair you have. It can be a scary prospect, but you are not alone.

Is Your Hair Thin Or Thinning How To Tell The Difference

27 Sep, 2020

Whether you have thin hair or not, were all guilty of getting up close and personal with the bathroom mirror, analyzing our strands to see how theyre holding up. But how do you actually figure out if your hair is thinning or if its just naturally thin? Kind of a stressful investigation, but no worries we did the work for you. Heres our guide to differentiating between hair types, and how to make the call on thin or thinning hair.

Fine Hair

First things first, lets get clear on how fine and thin hair are defined. Fine hair actually refers to the width, diameter, or circumference of the individual hairs on your head. If you have fine hair, the individual strands of hairs on your head are smaller roughly 50 microns in diameter. Its important to note that just because the individual hairs might have a small diameter, it doesnt affect how many hairs you have on your head. You can have fine hair and still have a lot of it! Coarse hair, on the other hand, is typically about 120 microns in diameter.

Some other characteristics common to fine hair include silky softness, lack of volume, sometimes fragile and prone to breakage, and easily greasy. Heres the crazy thing about fine hair, because it has nothing to do with the amount of hair on your head and everything to do with the kind of strands on your head, you can still have fine hair made up of course strands and it doesnt mean the overall density of your hair is thick.
