Mirabegron may affect the way other medicines work, and other medicines may affect how mirabegron works.
Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you’re taking:
- digoxin, a medicine for heart failure or abnormal heart rhythm
- imipramine or desipramine, medicines for urinary incontinence or nerve pain
- dabigatran, a blood thinner
- ketoconazole or itraconazole, medicines used to treat fungal infections

- headache â make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. Do not drink too much alcohol. Ask a pharmacist to recommend a painkiller. Talk to your doctor if the headaches continue or are severe.
- feeling dizzy â stop what you’re doing and sit or lie down until you feel better. Do not drive, ride a bike or operate machinery until it passes. If you are still having dizzy spells after a week, speak to your doctor.
- fast heart rate â lie down and try to relax. This is usually nothing to worry about and will pass. Contact 111 if your heart beat does not slow down after resting, or if you have chest pain.

You should take Myrbetriq once per day. There isnt a best time of day to take this medication. Take it at the time that suits you, and try to stick to the same time each day.
To help make sure that you dont miss a dose, try using a medication reminder. This can include setting an alarm or timer on your phone or downloading a reminder app. A kitchen timer can work, too.

What If I Take Too Much
If you take too much mirabegron, it is unlikely to harm you.
If you take an extra dose by mistake, you might get some of the common side effects, such as increased heart rate, or headache and dizziness.

Can Myrbetriq Be Crushed Split Or Chewed
No, Myrbetriq tablets must not be crushed, split, or chewed. Doing so can damage their extended-release action. These tablets should be swallowed whole. This is usually easier if you take them with a drink.
If you or your child have trouble swallowing Myrbetriq tablets whole, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.
Myrbetriq granules are mixed into a liquid suspension. The child should swallow their dose of suspension without chewing the granules.

What Myrbetriq Does
Myrbetriq is a type of drug called a beta-3 adrenoceptor agonist. It works by attaching to special sites on the detrusor muscle cells called beta-3 receptors. When Myrbetriq attaches to these sites, it causes the detrusor muscle to relax.

Lower cost might help drive doctors’ choice, researchers say

THURSDAY, March 30, 2017 — A drug linked to a raised risk of dementia is taken by millions of older Americans who have an overactive bladder, researchers say.
More than one-quarter of patients with the urinary problem had been prescribed the drug oxybutynin , an international team of investigators found.
Yet, “oxybutynin is a particularly poor drug for overactive bladder in elderly patients,” said study lead author Dr. Daniel Pucheril, a urologist at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Prior studies have linked the drug to thinking problems and increased risk of dementia in older people, possibly because of the way it affects brain chemicals, he said.
“It’s a great and effective drug for younger patients, but is a risky drug for older patients,” Pucheril said. It boosts dementia risk even when not taken indefinitely, he said.
Alternatives exist but they’re more expensive and may not be covered by insurance, at least initially, the study authors explained.
For instance, “most Medicare Part D plans have a tiered drug formulary, which means that patients must try and ‘fail’ oxybutynin before they will be eligible for the newer generation of antimuscarinic medications,” Pucheril said.
Also, there’s debate over the safety of alternatives.
“We cannot tell if patients are being monitored for neurologic problems in other ways,” Pucheril noted.
